What are lettering tattoos?
Lettering tattoos feature words, names, dates or short quotes as the main design. The style can range from fine, cursive script to bold blackletter or block letters. The font, size and spacing are as important as the wording, because letters that are too small or too tightly packed can blur as the tattoo ages.

FAQ
Lettering tattoos – questions & answers
What is a lettering tattoo?
A lettering tattoo is a design that uses words, names, dates or short quotes as its main element. The font and layout are chosen to match the meaning and the body placement.
How do I avoid spelling mistakes?
Double-check every letter before the appointment, and ask your artist to confirm the text and layout on a printed or digital proof. Taking time over the spelling is one of the most important steps.
What size should lettering be?
Very small or very thin lettering can blur over time. Your artist will suggest a size and spacing that keeps the words readable, especially for script.
Do lettering tattoos age well?
Bold lettering tends to hold up best. Fine script can soften more, so the artist may suggest a slightly larger size or thicker strokes for longevity.
Can I create a lettering tattoo design with AI?
Yes. TattooMe's AI tattoo designs let you create lettering design ideas before you book. Always confirm the final wording and spelling with your tattoo artist.
